Alec N. Brown
Composer and Pianist from the Western Slope
Let me introduce myself. My name is Alec N. Brown and I'm an aspiring composer and performer who has lived on the Western Slope of Colorado for most of my life. In 2016 I started attending Colorado Mesa University to pursue a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Keyboard Performance and fulfilled this goal in the winter of 2020. I have started composing diligently during my college years and had landed my first short-film composing gig for the 2019 short-film "Hatchlings", directed by the lovely Catherine E. Jones. On this site you will be able to find the services I offer, my social media platforms, my original compositions and their recordings, and my unofficial soundtrack arrangements. Enjoy your stay, and donations are always appreciated!
Latest Composition - Nocturne in Bb-Minor
After a long time in the making, I have finally completed my third Nocturne for solo piano. This go-around, I used the key of Bb Minor and decided to rely heavily on chromaticism and chord development. Although the melody is harder to grasp than previous compositions, I find the use of scales and it's use of tonality to be compelling. I hope you enjoy!
Services Offered
I accept payments by Cash, Check, and PayPal.

Piano Accompaniment
My rates are $40 per rehearsal/lesson and $60 per performance. I offer a 3 lesson bundle for $100. All payments are due at the time of the rehearsal/lesson. If you're interested, send me an email with your name, instrument, the names of the pieces you're playing, and a PDF or link to the sheet music so I may review it before accepting. I operate between Fruita and Palisade. Outside of these areas my fees do change to cover the extra time and commute.

Private Lessons
I offer lessons in Piano and Composition. My rate is $50 per lesson and is due by the time of lesson. I accept people with experience and no experience alike, but I only work with those 12 years of age and older. The first lesson is $25 and includes an interview where questions will be exchanged and I can get a feel for who I am working with. At this first lesson or by email we will figure out a schedule. I offer lessons weekly and biweekly.
New Year, New Composition!
Waltz in Eb Major by Alec N. Brown
Starting the New Year off with a bang, I came out with a new waltz for solo piano! The revised sheet music can be found by clicking the little widget and down below with my other compositions. This one was a fun one to write and I hope it's just as fun to listen to and play! Enjoy!
Alec's Style
Although I'd like to admit everything I do is 100% original, the truth is I've been inspired by many greats across the many genres. Trying something new is always something I look forward to. I try to make each new composition just as special and thoughtful as the last. This involves diving into new territories for me such as serialism, rock, etc. I could list all the composers that I find inspiration in, but that list is simply too long.

Hatchlings (2019)
At the beginning of 2019, I was contacted by the Durango based production company AllGirlsMedia and hired to score the short film Hatchlings. I take great pride in my first ever film score and put a lot of work into it. Inspirations include Danny Elfman, Howard Shore, John Williams, James Newton Howard, and Bela Bartok.

Classical Writing
I feel it is the composers responsibility to try to learn and experiment as much as possible. One of my favorite activities is challenging myself to write a new style of piece in the classical styles, such as Nocturnes, Polonaises, etc. Although I am a classically trained pianist, I take pride in my ability to orchestrate and relate every sound to different instruments.

Freelancing as a Performer
Although my biggest passion is composing, I can't forget my roots. When I get writer's block, it's always fun to sit down at the keyboard and play away. Recitals, nursing homes, and hospitals are some of my favorite gigs. Wedding venues always present a new opportunity to make memories. I currently perform as a keyboardist in an upcoming Progressive Jazz group and as an accompanist for Colorado Mesa University and Mesa County Valley School District 51 and their students.

The Importance of Composing
Music composition is a highly important art that I feel should be taught just as often as instrumental performance. My services as a composition advisor help to provide students with training in the art of composition and proficiency at the piano. With a wide variety of genres being explored, many different musical backgrounds are welcomed regardless of instrument or past experience in music. Subjecting students to feedback from classmates and contemporaries help to build confidence and are offered to every one of my students to show off their latest works to their peers.
Can We Start Over? - Music by John Powell

Arranged by Alec Brown, Performed by Carissa
I was contacted by the lovely pianist, Carissa, over on YouTube! She was very kind and asked if I would let her use my arrangement of a beautiful tune from How to Train Your Dragon 2 by John Powell. She's done a superb job of bringing the arrangement to life, and even synced it up with the scene from the film, so kudos to her! Go check out her channel, which can be found on YouTube. I hope you enjoy, and I would love to collaborate with her again. Let us know your thoughts!

My Arrangements
for Piano Solo and More!
I absolutely adore film music and in my spare time like to adapt pieces to my personal instrument, the piano! These are all free to use and I appreciate the continuous support especially on YouTube!
Dragon Flight (Piano Solo)

from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Composed by Alexandre Desplat.
Arguably my favorite scene in the franchise, the music is awe-inspiring and something I personally felt the need to adapt to piano. Hope you enjoy!
Pirates of the Caribbean Suite for Piano and Cello

from all five Pirates of the Caribbean films. Composed by Klaus Badelt, Hans Zimmer, and Geoff Zanelli.
Here is a medley that I arranged years ago during my earliest years of college. Finally available to the public!
Entry Into The Great Hall (Piano Solo)

from Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. Composed by John Williams.
Surprisingly, there is no officially published sheet music for this cue! As the doors to the Great Hall swing open, the listener is greeted not only to good food, but a very cute, magical, and catchy little melody. Enjoy!
Leia's News and The Light of the Force

from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
Composed by John Williams
Williams' could've never predicted two more trilogies coming out after the Original Trilogy, but he made sure to wrap up Return of the Jedi tying together the romance, the end of the war, and a send off to a redeemed villain. A beautiful note to end on. Enjoy!
Singapore (Piano Solo)

from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Composed by Hans Zimmer.
I was always a little upset the official publication of this work wasn't the complete version of the piece as heard on the soundtrack. I fixed that! Here is the Singapore Concert Suite arranged for piano!
Discombobulate (for 2 Pianos)

from Sherlock Holmes (2009). Composed by Hans Zimmer
One of the best pieces Zimmer has written, if not his catchiest. Here it is arranged for two pianos.
Main Titles (Piano Solo)

From Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Composed by Jerry Goldsmith
Although I am unfamiliar with this movie, I have seen a few episodes of the original series as well as the 2009 JJ Abrams trilogy. The music of this franchise is incredible, and this theme by Jerry Goldsmith is one of my favorites. Truly iconic. Here is my arrangement of it for Solo Piano. Enjoy!
Billywig (Piano Solo)

from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Composed by James Newton Howard.
An odd little gem from the Deluxe Edition of the soundtrack, I found myself having a fun but challenging time adapting this score by ear to the piano. I believe it is one of the more underrated pieces from this score.
Together We Map the World (Piano Solo)

from How to Train Your Dragon 2: The Deluxe Edition by John Powell
Every piece in this trilogy is arguably a masterpiece, so I can't pick my favorite one, but here's one of my favorites! Arranged for solo piano, I used the published score to get this arrangement as accurate as possible. Enjoy!
Secrets of the Castle (Piano Solo)

from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Composed by John Williams
Although not an optimal piece for piano, I thought I would give an arrangement a shot anyways! From the mysterious dark textures to the light-as-air flute solo, I used Williams' score to create a very faithful arrangement.
Can We Start Over? (Piano Solo)

from How to Train Your Dragon 2: The Deluxe Edition by John Powell
Almost as if god-rays came down from the sky to herald an announcement of epic proportions, John Powell released the Deluxe Edition CD of the HTTYD2 Score as well as the printed score. I arranged a beautiful cue from the score. Check it out!
The Battle of Crait (Piano Solo)

from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Composed by John Williams
A few years ago, I bought the official Piano Folio of this film and was immensely disappointed at how trimmed this incredible piece of music was. I decided to fix this error and arranged the entire suite for solo piano, directly from the maestro's orchestral score!
Harry Meets Fawkes (Piano Solo)

from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Composed by John Williams
Adapted by William Ross
Williams' theme for Fawkes the Phoenix is one of his best musical contributions to the franchise, as well as film scores as a whole. A very beautiful, magical, and thoughtful tune, this theme can be heard in this piece as Harry meets Fawkes for the first time.
Main Title (Piano Solo)

from Star Wars: A New Hope.
Composed by John Williams
All of the other piano arrangements of this piece, kind of suck, so I spent 2 days making a good one. Enjoy! :)

from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Composed by James Newton Howard
Jump back into the Wizarding World with the Main Titles from the 2016 film. Transitioning from Hedwig's Theme to a theme for Grindelwald, and finally, a theme to represent Newt Scamander's trip to the US. Possibly my favorite track from the album.
